Volkswagen Golf celebrates 50th anniversary, surpasses 50,000 units sold in Korea

Volkswagen's iconic Golf, which celebrated its 50th anniversary this year, has surpassed 50,000 units in Korea. The Golf, which was introduced to the Korean market in 2005, has sold 50,089 units in Korea through March this year. The Golf is the first imported compact hatchback to surpass 50,000 units in Korea.

The Volkswagen Golf is a compact hatchback that was first launched in 1974 and has evolved through eight generations over the past 50 years. It has long been one of Volkswagen's best-selling models around the world, thanks to its affordable price, practical space, solid driving dynamics and basic features.

In Korea, the fifth-generation Golf was officially launched with Volkswagen Korea's entry into the country and has continued to be a popular premium compact car with German engineering perfection. In a market that is often referred to as a 'hatchback barren', the Golf has sparked a hatchback craze in Korea, appealing to customers with a European lifestyle.

Volkswagen Korea also officially launched the Golf GTI, a high-performance model with the innovative DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox) dual-clutch transmission and high-powered engine, in Korea, bringing a more dynamic experience to Korean customers. The Golf GTI has helped popularise high-performance cars in the Korean market with its outstanding performance.

The Golf's popularity in the Korean market is largely due to its affordable price and maintenance costs, class-leading technology, and the high level of driving performance of an authentic German hatchback. From customers who want a premium compact car for everyday driving to car enthusiasts who want a high-performance hot hatch, the Golf is an iconic hatchback that appeals to all generations and tastes.

Currently, two models are available in Korea: the Golf 2.0 TDI and the Golf GTI. The Golf TDI is a premium compact hatchback with excellent efficiency and solid fundamentals, while the Golf GTI continues to be a performance icon with its high-performance TSI engine and precise handling.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Golf and its 50,000th domestic sales milestone, Volkswagen Korea plans to launch a variety of marketing activities this year to encourage more customers to discover the Golf's appeal.
