The 'GREEN+' urban forest, which Mercedes-Benz Corporate Social Responsibility has created with the Seoul Metropolitan Government to protect the city's climate, was unveiled to the public for the first time at the Seoul International Garden Expo, which kicked off at Ttukseomhan River Park on 16 April.
The Mercedes-Benz Corporate Social Responsibility Committee planted 5,520 carbon-reducing trees to create the Green Plus Urban Forest, a 1,300-square-metre corporate action garden that provides citizens with a space to enjoy nature in the heart of the city, improving air quality and reducing heat islands.
The Green Plus Urban Forest is planted with shrubs and trees such as giant oak, blue angel, and birch trees to reduce carbon and fine dust, and provides visitors with a green space alongside the 200,000 square metre Corporate Garden, Writer's Garden, Student Garden, and Citizen's Garden.
The newly unveiled Green Plus Urban Forest is part of the Green Plus Urban Forest project agreement signed in April 2022 by the Mercedes-Benz Committee for Social Contribution with the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Children and Future Foundation. It will be open to the public until 8 October at the Seoul International Garden Fair in Ttukseomhangangang Park.
The opening ceremony of the '2024 Seoul International Garden Expo' was held on the 16th and was attended by Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon, Mercedes-Benz Social Contribution Committee member Lee Sang-guk, officials from nine participating companies, gardeners, and citizens.
"We are pleased to work with Seoul to create the Green Plus Urban Forest and provide citizens with a pleasant urban forest space where they can experience nature," said Sangguk Lee, Member of the Mercedes-Benz Committee for Social Contribution. "The Mercedes-Benz Committee for Social Contribution, which has planted a total of 21,047 trees in Seoul and Uljin, will continue to create a sustainable green culture through various carbon-neutral activities."
