Volvo Cars' flagship SUV XC90 has been awarded the highest possible rating of Top Safety Pick+ (TSP+) in crash safety tests by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) in the United States.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) is a non-profit research and education organisation founded in 1959 with the goal of reducing death, injury, and property damage from motor vehicle crashes. It publishes safety ratings annually after rigorous testing of new vehicles introduced in North America at its state-of-the-art vehicle research centres.
To be awarded TSP+, a vehicle must pass a series of tests, which were more stringent this year, including: medium overlap and small overlap tests; front and side tests; pedestrian frontal crash neglect test; and headlight test.
The Volvo XC90 lives up to its title of 'synonymous with safety' and has once again proven itself to be a top safety performing SUV with a TSP+ rating in these enhanced IIHS tests. The XC90 is also the first iconic model to feature a number of Volvo Cars' safety systems, including Rollover Stability Control, Collision Detection and Emergency Braking with Auto brake in intersections and Run-off Road Protection.

In line with the philosophy that 'safety should never be an option', the XC90 now on sale in Korea is equipped with Volvo Cars' advanced intelligent safety system 'intelliSafe' as standard on all trims. It incorporates Volvo Cars' most advanced safety technologies, including City Safety, the world's first emergency braking system developed by Volvo Cars, Pilot Assist II, Oncoming Lane Mitigation, and Blind Spot Information.
Other standard features include the Whiplash Injury Protection System (WHIPS), which protects the driver and passengers from external impacts in the event of a collision; Side Impact Protection System (SIPS); Speed Cap, which limits the car's top speed to 180 km/h; Care Key, which allows the owner to limit the car's top speed themselves; and Volvo Assist, which helps with emergency dispatch and ambulance calls.
