The Hyundai IONIQ 6 has been awarded the ED1000, the German electric vehicle magazine Electric Drive's long-distance driving evaluation of electric vehicles, with excellent results across the board, including range, charging performance, driving performance, design and interior space.
'Electric Drive' is a bi-monthly German magazine dedicated to electric vehicles, and since its launch in 2018, it has been providing the public with a wide range of information on the performance of electric vehicles in everyday driving conditions through long-distance driving tests, as well as setting the standard for electric vehicle purchases.
In this IONIQ 6 long-distance evaluation, Electric Drive spent two weeks testing the IONIQ 6 in real-world road conditions for a total of 2,000 kilometres, focusing on the car's design, cabin space, driving performance and charging performance.
The IONIQ 6 received an overall rating of 5 out of 5, with near-perfect scores in six categories, including range, charging speed, driving performance, ride comfort, quality and convenience features. "For EV shoppers, range and charging performance are critical factors in making a purchase, and the IONIQ 6 excels in both, making it the perfect EV for consumers to make a no-regrets choice," said Electric Drive.
The media said of the IONIQ 6's electricity consumption, "During the two-week test period, it rained heavily, which is unfavourable for electricity consumption, and we drove in various road conditions across Germany, including city streets, national roads and motorways, under harsh conditions that do not take into account electricity consumption at all, such as high speeds and overtaking. Despite this, we achieved an average consumption of 20 kilometres/100 kilometres (approx. 5 km/kWh), and on national roads and city streets, where the regenerative braking function was frequently activated, the consumption reached 15.8 kilometres/100 kilometres (approx. 6.3 km/kWh), making it a very economical car."
The ease of charging the IONIQ 6, which features an 800V high-voltage system and navigation with charging station guidance, was also praised. "With its 800V high-voltage system, the IONIQ 6 charges faster than other EVs, taking about seven hours to go from 10 to 100% on a full charge from a home wallbox, and 13 minutes to go from 271 to 80% at a 350-kilowatt super-fast charging station," said Electric Drive. "The navigation system also provides a warning if there is not enough power left to reach a specified destination, and guides you to nearby charging stations that are currently available."
They also praised the basics, including the interior and exterior design and driving performance. "The IONIQ 6's streamlined and sensible design is not only beautiful, but all the design elements at the front, rear, and sides contribute to maximising aerodynamic performance, resulting in world-class fuel efficiency," he said. "Despite its coupe-like design, the long wheelbase provides ample space, and the ergonomic design maximises operational comfort."
"It's dynamic and nimble in the corners, but on the flat it's smooth and effortless, with a harmonious ride that makes the driver feel at ease," he said.
