Premium commercial vehicle brand Scania has once again proved itself as the most fuel-efficient truck in the world by winning the 2024 Green Truck of the Year award.
The Green Truck Award is an annual fuel efficiency test organised jointly by the influential German transport magazine Buckierungszau and the trucking trade publication Trucker. The award is given to the truck with the most outstanding environmental credentials and excellent fuel efficiency. Every year, all European heavy-duty truck manufacturers participate.
Scania has won nine of the 14 Green Truck Award tests dating back to 2011, including this year's victory, and has captured the industry's attention by winning the Green Truck Award trophy for six consecutive years from 2017 to 2022.
The tests are carried out on public roads under strictly monitored conditions, each year with different conditions, and take into account all the factors that can determine transport efficiency and sustainability, such as fuel consumption, average speed, urea water usage and weight. The tests are also conducted in a rigorous manner, with the competing trucks in the test being tested in the same conditions, and the reference trucks being matched to factors that can affect the results, such as outdoor temperature and wind.
Scania participated in the test with the Scania Super460R model. At 7,040 kilograms, it was the lightest vehicle in the test and had the fastest average speed of 79.70 km/h. The average fuel consumption difference between it and the second-placed car was 0.41 litres over 100 kilometres. In addition, Scania's terrain prediction-based cruise control (CCAP) system, which was upgraded and launched last year, is believed to have given the car an edge in the test.
"We are very proud and pleased that Scania has once again been named the most fuel-efficient truck in the world this year," says Stefan Dorsky, Head of Scania Trucks. "It is significant that our trucks significantly reduce carbon emissions as global transport still relies heavily on combustion engines. "We have always focused on our core value of 'delivering the best possible transport efficiency', which is what the industry is all about, and this has resulted in the introduction of the 'Scania Super' with 8% of fuel savings."
