General Motors (GM) has signed an industry-academic collaboration agreement with the State University of New York at New York, Korea, to help develop local talent to lead the fast-paced industries of the future.

In this regard, a business agreement ceremony was held at New York State University of Korea in Songdo, Incheon, on the 3rd of this month, with the participation of Hector Villarreal, President and CEO of GM Korea, Brian McMurray, President of GM Research and Development Corporation, and Arthur H. Lee, President of New York State University of Korea, as well as representatives from GM and New York State University of Korea, to explore various ways to foster future talent in the local community based on mutual cooperation between the companies and the educational institutions.

Through this agreement, GM and the State University of New York at New York will provide STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education programmes for local students, host seminars on new mobility technologies, conduct mentoring sessions and identify educational programmes to help shape the industry of the future.

"GM is committed to developing global talent, providing STEM programmes for local youth in our communities, and cultivating leaders for the mobility industry of the future," said Hector Villarreal. "Through our partnership with the State University of New York at New York, we look forward to maximising the potential of our youth and unlocking their unlimited creativity to help shape a safer and brighter future."

"As a leader in the mobility of the future, GM is committed to developing a diverse global workforce that will be at the forefront of evolving future technologies and the cutting-edge industries of the future we seek," said Brian McMurray, President, GM. "This collaboration will provide much-needed STEM programming for local students, and we will continue to explore other innovative and creative educational programs to develop local talent to lead the rapidly changing industries of the future."

"We look forward to expanding our corporate and educational collaborations through today's agreement," said Arthur Lee, president of GM Korea. "In particular, this is an exciting opportunity for us to not only provide a rich educational experience for the students and faculty of the State University of New York at Korea and GM employees, but also to support the local community and explore ways in which we can grow mutually."

With diversity, inclusion, and innovation at the heart of our corporate focus, GM is also engaged in a variety of community outreach initiatives, including youth STEM programmes, transportation education programmes, environmental improvement programmes, and local self-sufficiency programmes.

This is part of GM's global commitment to the Triple Zero vision of zero traffic accidents, zero congestion and zero carbon emissions. Going forward, GM will continue to support local communities and underprivileged groups in a variety of areas.
