Cadillac today celebrated the launch of its first all-electric SUV, LYRIQ, with LG Energy Solutions, LG Chem, POSCO Future M and other Korean companies in a global technology partnership.
The Lyric is Cadillac's first model to feature General Motors' next-generation universal architecture, ULTIUM, and is the result of an active collaboration with domestic partners with world-class technology in the battery space.
Speaking at the LYRIQ Inspiration Night event at Atelier LYRIQ, Hector Viarreal, President and CEO of GM Korea, said, "LYRIQ was developed in close collaboration with LG partners, including Ultium Cells, the North American joint venture between GM and LG Energy Solutions. "Our Korean partners, including LG Energy Solutions, LG Chem, POSCO Future M and POSCO, have been instrumental in helping Cadillac redefine the standard for luxury EVs globally with the Lyric SUV. With its stylish design, luxurious interior and superior battery performance, the Lyric continues to build on the success of the global luxury EV market in Korea."
At the event, executives from both companies, including Hector Viarreal, President and CEO of GM Korea, Wonjun Seo, Vice President of LG Energy Solutions' Automotive Battery Division, and Hyangmok Lee, Vice President of LG Chem's Anode Materials Division, as well as key partners and potential customers, including a delegation from Cadillac dealerships, celebrated the launch of the Lyric by exploring seven different concepts inspired by the Lyric. Located on Dosan-daero in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, Atelier Lyric is comprised of seven unique spaces designed to enhance visitors' understanding of Lyric's exceptional design and technical perfection, and is open to the public until 30 June.
At the Atelier Lyric event, the E101A Cell, a high-nickel NCMA pouch-type long-cell battery, was on display and attracted great interest from attendees. The E101A Cell, which was first mass-produced by Ultimate Cells, provided the technical basis for Lyric's outstanding performance.
The event also saw the signing of an agreement between Cadillac and LG Group, including LG Energy Solutions, for the purchase of the first Lyric vehicles in Korea.
On the morning of the 26th, Cadillac held a special promotion at the Square Garden in front of the POSCO Center to showcase the Lyric in person in front of key employees including GM Korea President Hector Viarreal and POSCO Future M CEO Yoo Byung-ok.
The event reaffirmed the strong partnership between the two companies, sharing the outstanding performance features of the Lyric and the technological excellence of the POSCO Group. In addition to showcasing the Lyric at the event, Cadillac also offered additional discounts on the Cadillac Escalade, XT6, XT5, XT4 and CT5 Black Wing to POSCO Group employees.
The Li-Ion battery is equipped with high-nickel NCMA anode material and low-expansion natural graphite cathode material from POSCO FutureM, as well as secondary battery materials and steel products from the POSCO Group, including Giga Steel, ultra-high-strength steel and electrical steel plates.
Meanwhile, the Lyric is Cadillac's first all-electric SUV with a design inspired by The Rhythms of Nature. It features a high-capacity 102-kilowatt-hour battery pack with battery cells composed of nickel-cobalt-manganese-aluminium (NCMA) anode material arranged in 12 modules. It comes with dual motors for all-wheel drive and a range of 465 kilometres on a full charge. It also supports DC fast charging, which can charge at up to 190 kilowatts per hour. Also an industry first, Variable Regen on Demand enables precise deceleration, stopping and regenerative braking using only a pressure-sensitive paddle switch mounted behind the steering wheel.
Available in a single trim level, the Sport, the Lyric will be priced at 16.96 million won (excluding 5% tax) in Korea, and deliveries are expected to begin in July. For more information on the ELRIC, please visit Cadillac's official website.
