Renault Korea today welcomed Minister of Employment, Labour and Social Affairs Lee Jung-sik and government officials to the Renault Korea Busan plant, where they toured key facilities and held a labour-management meeting.
이날 노사간담회에는 스테판 드블레즈 사장을 비롯한 르노코리아 임원진, 김동석 르노코리아 노조위원장, 이정식 고용노동부 장관, 김준휘 부산고용노동청장 등이 참석했다. 이번 간담회는 자동차 산업전환에 대비하기 위해 제정된 ‘산업전환에 따른 고용안정 지원 등에 관한 법률’ 시행을 앞두고 모범적 노사 관계 구축 및 이에 필요한 정부 지원 방안 등을 논의하는 자리다.
"Renault Korea is deeply rooted in Busan with its many partners based on 'Born French, Made in Korea'," said Stéphane Deblais, President of Renault Korea, at the press conference. "We plan to launch a range of new vehicles in the domestic market, including a new mid-size hybrid SUV that will be unveiled at the Busan Mobility Show in June, and we will also produce the Polestar 4 electric vehicle later next year," he said, explaining the future plans for the plant.
"The flexibility of production at the Busan plant, which can produce up to eight mixed types of products on one line, is due to the employees who have worked together to maintain excellent quality." He added, "We have been continuously communicating with the trade unions to ensure win-win labour relations."
After explaining the difficulties faced by production employees due to the decline in sales and production volumes last year, Kim Dong-seok, chairman of the Renault Korea Workers' Union, said, "Job security is provided by consumers." "We will work together to prepare the new car for the second half of this year and the union will also take the lead in ensuring the success of the new car."
"As excellent human resources and collaboration with suppliers are crucial to achieving a competitive industrial transformation, we look forward to Renault Korea's Future Vehicle Project becoming an excellent model for future vehicle transformation that also brings job security to suppliers," said Minister of Employment and Labour Lee Jung-sik.
Meanwhile, in March, Renault Korea signed an investment memorandum of understanding with the city of Busan centred on plans to invest in facilities for the production of future vehicles, announcing plans to invest KRW 118 billion in replacing facilities for the production of hybrid and electric vehicles at its Busan plant over the next three years and hire 200 new employees.
