Kia EV5 Long Range unveiled, 720km range in China CLTC

Kia will be exhibiting at the 2024 Beijing International Auto Show from 25 April to 4 May at the China International Exhibition Centre's Shunyuan Pavilion with the theme of Transition to Smart Mobility. The Beijing International Motor Show, which will be held for the first time in four years since 2020, is the most prestigious motor show in China and will feature more than 100 automotive brands. Kia will have an exhibition booth of approximately 1,100 square metres during the show.

At the press conference, Kia introduced the EV5 Long Range, a mid-size electric SUV, through a musical showcase that tells the story of a customer's car-buying journey. The musical was based on the experiences of real EV5 owners, introducing the superior productivity of Kia's electric vehicles. It was based on the high productivity that considers both convenience and safety, as well as the quality of the EV5, which was experienced while driving about 5,500 kilometres on mountainous roads in Tibet, China.

The EV5 is the first EV to be produced locally in China on the E-GMP platform. The EV5 is available in three configurations in China: Standard 2WD and Long Range 2WD-AWD. The Long Range 2WD model features an 88.1-kilowatt-hour battery with a range of 720 kilometres per charge at China CLTC. The AWD model has a combined power output of 233 kilowatts to ensure dynamic and stable driving performance unique to electric vehicles.

Considering the diverse needs of consumers in the car, it is equipped with a range of cabin UX features that are rarely seen in this class, such as a driver's seat with massage function, an in-built console cooler, and a luggage multi-table. It also features class-leading smart features such as Highway Driving Assist 2 with semi-automatic lane change, Remote Smart Parking Assist 2 with automatic parking in various environments, and Digital Key 2.

Kia plans to actively target the rapidly changing electric vehicle market in China with the EV5, which has excellent product features. In the future, Kia will introduce EV5 with differentiated performance and productivity in each major market, including Korea, considering customer needs and market environment.

In response to the increasingly price-competitive Chinese auto market, Hyundai has strengthened its SUV line-up with the unveiling of the Sonnet, a global entry SUV. It boasts smooth driving performance and excellent fuel efficiency through the Smartstream petrol 1.5 engine and IVT transmission. It is equipped with a smart driving system for safe and comfortable driving. In addition to forward collision prevention assist and lane keeping assist, it is equipped with lane departure warning and smart speed limit assist to secure competitiveness.

All trims come standard with six airbags, leatherette upholstery, dual 10.25-inch colour screens and Baidu Connect 3.0, a connectivity system developed in collaboration with Baidu, enabling smart automotive experiences such as enjoying movies and music, controlling the smart home, and OTA upgrades to the infotainment system. Other key convenience features include smart key and wireless mobile phone charging.

Kia is organising its pavilion at the 2024 Beijing International Motor Show under the concept of transforming into an EV brand. The EV-themed booth and the customer-themed booth will allow visitors to experience the EV life, combining the advanced technology of Kia EVs with outstanding productivity, while the internal combustion engine booth will showcase Kia's vehicles currently on sale or upcoming in China.

The EV-themed booth consists of the EV Zone and the EV Life Experience Zone. The EV Zone will showcase Kia's core electric vehicles, including the EV5, EV6 and EV6 GT.

The EV Life Experience Zone allows visitors to experience Kia's advanced electrification technology. The Uni-Wheel technology, which integrates the electric drive components and wheels into one, will be on display, where customers can actually operate the models on display. The development background and technical principles of the next-generation functionally integrated wheel drive system will also be explained.

In addition, an EV6 GT equipped with Level 4 autonomous driving solutions will be on display for visitors to experience first-hand. In addition, there will be a demonstration of V2L technology using EV5.

A customer-themed booth showcases the eco-friendly materials used in the EV5's interior to demonstrate Kia's commitment to sustainable mobility. Inside the booth, there is also a dedicated space for customers to consult with dealers. Visitors to the show will be able to get purchase advice on Kia vehicles at their convenience.

The internal combustion engine booth will showcase the new Sonnet, a strategic model for China, as well as the Sportage, Celtos product enhancement model and Carnival.

"Kia will continue to strive for customer satisfaction in the rapidly changing Chinese automotive market by introducing competitive vehicles that meet customer needs," said a Kia spokesperson at the Beijing International Motor Show.
