In a recent comparison of electric SUVs, German automotive publication Auto Bild praised the Kia EV6 as being of higher quality and more desirable than Volkswagen's ID.5 GTX.
Auto Bild is one of Germany's three most trusted automotive magazines, along with Auto Motor und Sport and Auto Zeitung, and is highly influential among consumers in Germany and across Europe. The comparative evaluation of the two electric SUVs, the Kia EV6 and the Volkswagen ID.5 GTX, was conducted across seven evaluation categories: body, comfort, powertrain, driving dynamics, connectivity, environmental performance and economy.
The EV6 scored highly in five of the evaluation categories - body, powertrain, driving performance, environmental friendliness and economy - for an overall score of 570, beating the ID.5 GTX, which scored 564. It is noteworthy that the ID.5 GTX outperformed not only the body and driving performance, which are the core of the car, but also the electric powertrain, which is a key factor in determining the level of electric vehicle technology.
In particular, the EV6 scored well against its competitors with fast battery charging times and reliable braking performance. The EV6 was able to charge its battery from 10% to 80% in 18 minutes, which is better than the ID.5 GTX's 28-minute charge time, and the EV6's braking performance was superior to the ID.5 GTX, which recorded a stopping distance of 33.9 metres when braking from 100 km/h, compared to 37.5 metres.
With the EV6, Kia has once again demonstrated the superior merit of electric vehicles based on its dedicated E-GMP platform. "The EV6 has a spacious interior and a first-class fast-charging system," said Auto Bild, "and is an attractive car with excellent performance and design."
"We are delighted that the EV6 has been recognised for its outstanding merit in Europe, a key market for electric vehicles, and we will continue to strengthen our competitiveness in the highly competitive global electric vehicle market with high-quality electric vehicles," said Kia.
Meanwhile, Kia introduced The New EV6, an improved version of the EV6, in Korea on the 14th. The New EV6 is powered by an 84-kWh fourth-generation battery with a range of 494 kilometres per charge (based on the combined, long-range 2WD model, 19-inch wheels and no built-in cam).
It also features the next-generation infotainment system, ccNC (connected car Navigation Cockpit), which enhances the connection between the vehicle and the user, and reflects Kia's new family look, Starmap Signature Lighting, for a more dynamic look.
The EV6 has also demonstrated its product competitiveness in the global electric vehicle market, winning the Korean brand's first European Car of the Year award in 2022, followed by The North American Car, Truck and Utility Vehicle of the Year (SUV category) in 2023.
