BMW Motorrad, the motorcycle division of BMW, officially launches the retro roadster New R 12 nineT and the sports cruiser New R 12 in Korea. The BMW R nineT series is BMW Motorrad's flagship retro motorcycle line-up, which has become a favourite among domestic riders.
The new R 12 nineT and the new R 12 combine the traditional design language and modern technology of the R nineT with a modular concept that offers greater freedom and customisation options. Both models are equipped with a two-cylinder, 1,170 cu in, horizontally opposed boxer engine with shared cooling and a newly developed one-piece frame. Unlike conventional frames, it does not require any fixings, giving it a cleaner, more classic look.
For the first time in the R nineT series, it is also equipped with a shift assist that allows you to change gears in both directions without engaging the clutch. It is also functionally combined with Dynamic Brake Control to keep the body stable. Keyless Ride, Dynamic Engine Brake Control and Dynamic Traction Control are standard on both models. Headlight Pro with adaptive cornering light, Connected Ride Control, digital display and tyre pressure control system are also available as standard options.
The instrument cluster has also undergone a modern evolution. A 3.5-inch digital display replaces the traditional round instrument cluster. The high-resolution digital display changes colour depending on the riding mode, visually conveying the emotion of that mode.
The new R 12 nineT focuses on dynamic driving in urban environments and on winding roads. With a peak power output of 109 hp and maximum torque of 11.7 kg-m, it offers three driving modes - Rain, Road and Dynamic - to ensure you always feel in control.
The aluminium fuel tank, seat bench and rear cover are designed to rise towards the rear for a more dynamic feel. The bike rides on 17-inch wheels at the front and rear. The narrower and shorter fuel tank, which brings the rider closer to the handlebars, gives the bike a sleek and dynamic look, while improved ergonomics allow for a more aggressive riding position. This allows the rider to control the body more intuitively for an enhanced driving experience.
The new R 12 is a sports cruiser with a maximum power output of 95 hp and a maximum torque of 11.2 kg-m, focusing on excellent acceleration at low engine revs. It has a Rock mode for dynamic driving and a Roll mode for everyday comfort. The fuel tank is shaped like a teardrop, reminiscent of the classic 'toaster tank', and the single seat combined with the large rear wheel cover creates a sloping line from front to back, giving the cruiser a distinctive look.
The 19-inch front and 16-inch rear wheels are a perfect match for the relaxed, laid-back look, while the low-profile seat and wide handlebars encourage a relaxed riding position to minimise fatigue over long rides.
The New R 12 nineT and New R 12 are priced from KRW 28.1 million to KRW 30.9 million (with additional cell) for the New R 12 nineT and KRW 23.8 million to KRW 26.6 million for the New R 12, depending on trim and colour.
