The Mercedes-Benz Social Contribution Committee held a donation handover ceremony at Busan City Hall in Yeonje-gu, Busan, South Korea, and donated KRW 500 million raised through the 11th Mercedes-Benz GIVE 'N RACE to support child protection organisations.
The donation ceremony, which took place on the 7th, was attended by Matthias Weitl, Chairman of the Mercedes-Benz Committee for Social Contribution, Mayor Park Hyung-jun of Busan, Byung-han Choi, President of Busan MBC, Byung-ki Kim, Business Director of the Children and Future Foundation, and Mi-ok Woo, Director of the Busan Women and Family Bureau.
Launched in 2017, 'Give & Race', which combines donations and running, is one of the flagship social contribution activities of the Mercedes-Benz Committee for Social Responsibility to support vulnerable children and young people in Korea, with a total of KRW 6.6 billion raised since the first event.
This year's Give & Race raised approximately KRW 1 billion in donations, of which KRW 500 million will be donated to Busan City to support child protection agencies for treatment, relapse prevention, case management and harm prevention for children affected by abuse in the area.
"It is particularly gratifying that we were able to support a shelter for abused children in the Busan area with this year's Run for the Cause," said Matthias Weitl, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Cars. "We will continue to strengthen our role as a corporate citizen and to support children in need and their neighbours with even more authentic social contribution activities."
The Mercedes-Benz Social Contribution Committee, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, has donated a cumulative total of KRW 47.4 billion to society as of the first quarter of 2024, the largest in the domestic import car industry.
