Volvo Cars Korea is launching the XC40 Dark Edition in a limited run of 44 units, which will go on sale on a first-come, first-served basis via the Volvo Cars digital shop on 2 April at 10am.

The XC40 is the brand's first compact SUV, launched globally in 2017. Based on the brand's 'Human-Centric' philosophy, it has been praised for setting new standards in the compact SUV market by creating the space that modern people need and offering advanced features for city driving. In 2018, it was named European Car of the Year for the first time in the brand's history, and since 2020, it has been the number one selling premium compact SUV in Europe for four consecutive years.

In Korea, the XC40 has been a trendsetter in the compact SUV segment since its launch in 2018, and while there has been a long waiting list, this limited-edition launch will allow customers who have been waiting to take delivery of their XC40 to do so immediately.

The XC40 Dark Edition is Volvo Cars Korea's first limited edition model to be launched this year. Based on the top-of-the-range Ultimate Dark trim, it features black design details that differentiate it from the existing model.

The exterior is a single colour, Onyx Black, with a high-gloss black design also applied to the radiator grille, front and rear skid plates and roof rails. The 20-inch five-double-spoke black diamond-cut wheels, which are different from the original 19-inch wheels, emphasise the sportier image. The car also comes with exclusive key cases for the Dark Edition in blonde leather and black leather that showcase Volvo's sensibility.

The interior features Drift Wood with the texture of natural wood and Swedish Orrefors® crystal gear knobs for a touch of luxury. A Harman Kardon sound system with speakers optimised for the interior space provides a Swedish luxury emotional quality. The Advanced Air Filtration System monitors PM 2.5 and pollen to prevent particles from entering the cabin up to 95%.

The powertrain is a combination of a straight four-cylinder 2.0-litre petrol mild hybrid (MHEV) engine with a maximum output of 197 hp and 30.6 kg-m of torque and an all-wheel drive (AWD) system. A 48-volt battery provides approximately 14 additional horsepower by assisting engine output during start-up, acceleration and restart for more agile driving. Based on state-of-the-art fifth-generation AWD technology from Sweden's Haldex, the all-wheel drive system provides improved handling, body stability and lower fuel consumption.

In particular, the integrated TMAP infotainment service, which integrates Korea's highest quality navigation system, TMAP, artificial intelligence (AI) platform NUGU, and user preference-based music platform FLO, enables users to enjoy a more advanced safety and personalised travel experience. It provides advanced information such as real-time traffic light information and 3D maps based on next-generation intelligent transport systems (C-ITS) to make driving more convenient and safe.

In addition, features such as 'Personalised Routine', which allows drivers to set and execute multiple services such as destination setting and music playback using a single voice, and 'Daily Briefing', which briefs drivers on the date and personal schedule, provide connectivity optimised for each driver's lifestyle. Add to that 15 years of free over-the-air (OTA) updates and five years of Digital Service Package, and you have a smart car that evolves over time.

"The XC40 Dark Edition is a limited edition model that showcases another expression of emotion from the Swedish luxury brand," said Yoon-Mo Lee, CEO of Volvo Cars Korea. "With its unique design, customers can experience the appeal of the XC40, which has been the best-selling compact SUV in Europe for four consecutive years, without waiting for a delivery."

The XC40 Dark Edition will be priced at 54.3 million won (VAT included), the same as the standard model, despite being a limited edition model with a black design and limited edition key case. Sales will begin on a first-come, first-served basis via Volvo Cars' digital shop on 2 April at 10am, with immediate delivery in contract order. It will also be available to see in person at special exhibitions at Starfield Hanam, Goyang and Seosuwon for about a month from 26 March.
