On the occasion of Disability Day, GM Korea held a disability experience event for employees at GM Korea and provided them with an opportunity to improve their awareness of disabilities. Through this event, we actively promoted diversity and inclusion values.
On the 16th of this month, the HanMom Foundation held various disability experience programs at GM Korea's Bupyeong headquarters, including ▲ massage experience for the blind, ▲ psychological analysis event for the blind tarot reader, ▲ walking with a white cane while blindfolded, ▲ identifying objects using only the hands, ▲ making Braille business cards, ▲ and ▲ han palace experience for the blind, to give GM employees the opportunity to experience the difficult situations that people with disabilities face in their daily lives.
The disability experience event was held in conjunction with GM Able, a voluntary organisation of GM employees who are committed to improving disability awareness for the company and its customers, and provided a meaningful opportunity to build an inclusive corporate culture where disability is not a limitation, and where all employees can reach their full potential.
"The HanMom Foundation is actively engaged in supporting the underprivileged in the community who are experiencing physical and material difficulties," said Myung Ok Yoon, Secretary General of the HanMom Foundation, which hosted the event. "Through this disability experience event, we expect to be able to provide more practical community support projects in the future by directly experiencing the difficulties that people with disabilities face in their daily lives."
"It was very beneficial to experience moments of diversity with GM employees who are leading the way in establishing a flexible and positive corporate culture," said Lee Chun-no, director of the Incheon Metropolitan Welfare Centre for the Visually Impaired. "We will continue to seek various opportunities for people with disabilities to expand social interaction and experience a sense of accomplishment, such as this disability experience event with the Hanmom Foundation."
In addition, the Hanmom Foundation donated two treadmills for the visually impaired to the Incheon Metropolitan Federation of the Blind and the Incheon Metropolitan Welfare Centre for the Visually Impaired so that people with disabilities can safely exercise and improve their health. We also celebrated the one-year anniversary of Notre Dame Bakery, GM's first bakery run by people with disabilities, and signed a business agreement to return a portion of the proceeds to society.
Since its establishment in 2005, HanMoment Foundation has been conducting various social contribution activities, including youth STEM programs, environmental improvement programs, programs to support the independence of vulnerable people in local communities, and vehicle donation projects. In particular, HanMoment Foundation's employee volunteers regularly carry out various volunteer activities throughout the local community, contributing to the safety and health of local community members.
