In the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, Pascal Wehrlein of the Porsche Works Team won the Drivers' World Championship in the Porsche 99X Electric. With 12 victories in 74 races, the Porsche Works Team is also the most successful Formula E team in history.

Pascal Wehrlein claimed his second major title at the season finale E-Prix in London on 21 May. He follows British driver Jake Dennis of the Andretti Customs team, who won the title in the same car in 2023, and marks Porsche's best result in the Formula 1 series in 40 years with a tag-turbocharged engine, notably as a team rather than as an engine partner.

Porsche has been competing in Formula E since 2019 as part of its electrification goals. The Bijak Works team scored a podium finish on its debut in Saudi Arabia in November 2019, followed by a historic first win in Mexico in February 2022 with a first and second place finish. With the introduction of the third generation of Formula E single-seaters, the Gen3, for the 2022/2023 season, the Porsche 99X Electric, developed by engineers at Flacht, demonstrated its technical superiority and rose to the top of the standings.

Florian Modlinger, Team Director Formula E, Porsche Factory Motorsport, joined Porsche at the beginning of 2022 to manage the team, bringing with him his experience from the DTM to adapt the team to sprint racing, as well as Porsche's skills from the endurance programme of the 919 Hybrid Le Mans Prototype. "In Formula E, with restrictions on test schedules, practice time, costs and manpower, it's important to operate efficiently, and Porsche is simultaneously racing and developing its current cars, testing Evo versions and developing a new generation of cars for Season 13," said Modlinger, "as we challenge to win the World Championship next season."

In the fifth season of Formula E competition in 2023/2024, Porsche continued its success by addressing its main weaknesses. Pascal Wehrlein took pole position and victory in the season opener in Mexico, followed by six more victories in Misano, Berlin, Shanghai, Portland and London, making it seven wins in a season. This surpasses the record set by Renault's e.dams team in season three. Wehrlein was crowned World Champion and best qualifier at the same time, while team-mate António Félix da Costa recorded the most wins with four, including three in a row. Thanks to Andretti driver Dennis, the Porsche 99X Electric took a total of eight victories.

With 12 victories in 74 races, the Porsche works team is the winningest team in Formula E. This season surpasses McLaren's record of three Formula 1 titles with the TAG turbo engine (Niki Lauda, 1984/Alain Prost 1985 and 1986). While Porsche designed the engine and McLaren was responsible for the rest of the car, Porsche is now responsible for the development of the 99X Electric, as well as the body structure and layout. This includes the electric motor, inverter, gearbox, differential, drive axle, cooling system, and rear suspension components from Bijak, as well as software. The software is particularly important for the 99X Electric, but also for the development of Porsche's production vehicles.
