Porsche AG expands the product portfolio of the third-generation Cayenne with the unveiling of the new Cayenne GTS model. The GTS, which is emblematic of the Gran Turismo sport, offers enhanced dynamics and long-distance driving performance. While the Cayenne is essentially an all-terrain SUV, the GTS model focuses on enhanced on-road performance. The new Cayenne GTS has been optimised for everyday usability while retaining its essence.
The Cayenne GTS is characterised by a finely tuned GTS-specific chassis and a ground clearance lowered by 10 millimetres. Adaptive air suspension is standard and includes Porsche Active Suspension Management and Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus. All chassis components and control systems such as Porsche Traction Management and the optional Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control have been specially designed for optimum on-road performance.
Two-valve damper technology provides quick response, while the two-chamber air suspension ensures dynamics and driver comfort. The front axle pivot bearings from the Cayenne Turbo GT increase the negative camber of the wheels by 0.58 degrees compared to other Cayenne models. This allows for more agile cornering and excellent handling.
The V8 4.0L twin-turbo engine, developed by Porsche and produced in Zuffenhausen, has received technical upgrades to increase its efficiency and performance. This results in an increase of 40 hp and 4.1 kg-m compared to the previous model, for a maximum output of 500 hp and 67.3 kg-m of maximum torque. The 0-100 km/h sprint takes just 4.4 seconds and the top speed is 275 km/h. The eight-speed Tiptronic S transmission has also been revised to improve driving performance with shorter response and shift times in Sport and Sport Plus modes.
Another technical innovation is the stand-alone water cooling system mounted in the transfer case of the Porsche Traction Management all-wheel drive system. In the same way as in the Turbo GT, it ensures stable control even in driving conditions where high revs and torque generate a lot of heat, such as on the race track or in the wind.
The exterior design is distinctive and sporty in a Porsche way. It features black GTS lettering on the sides and rear, a front end with enlarged air intakes, tinted headlamps and taillamps and red brake calipers. Body elements such as the side skirts, front inlays, side window trims and wheel arch extensions included in the standard Sport Design Package are finished in high-gloss black, as opposed to the same colour as the body on previous GTS models.
The sports exhaust system tailpipes, which were previously black, are now finished in dark bronze. The design portfolio of the Porsche GTS models is further enhanced by the 21-inch RS Spider design wheels in Anthracite Grey.
Inside, a heated GT sports steering wheel is standard. High-quality materials such as Raytex are used throughout the cabin, while suede-like fabric covers the roof lining, armrests and door panels, as well as the centre panel of the eight-way adjustable sports seats. The side bolsters have been raised to provide more lateral support during cornering. It is available in two colours: carmine red or slate grey neo.
The Cayenne GTS Coupé comes standard with a fixed panoramic roof with glass and an adaptive extension rear spoiler. To further accentuate the coupé's dynamic feel, a sports exhaust system with dark bronze-coloured centre outlets is also available. This is available in three Lightweight Sport packages. The lightweight packages also include a lightweight roof, carbon rear diffuser and reduced insulation, which can reduce the weight of the car by up to 25 kilograms, depending on the equation.
Sales prices for the new Cayenne GTS and Cayenne GTS Coupe in the German market, including VAT and country-specific standard equipment, start at 138,000 euros and 141,700 euros respectively. They will be available in Korea later this year.
