Hyundai Motor Company is sponsoring the MLB World Tour Seoul Series at the Gocheok Sky Dome. The MLB World Tour Seoul Series (Seoul Series) is the first Major League Baseball (MLB) game to be held in Korea. It consists of six games, including the opening two games of the MLB regular season between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Diego Padres from 17th to 21st, and four special games between the LG Twins, Kiwoom Heroes, and the Korea National Baseball Team.
Hyundai will provide a total of 18 vehicles for the Seoul Series, including six of its hydrogen commercial vehicles, the Universe Hydrogen Electric Bus, five Ioniqs, six Ioniqs, one G80, one GV80, and four Staria, to support the six-game series. Hyundai's support of the Universe Hydrogen Electric Bus is significant as it is the first hydrogen electric vehicle fleet in the MLB. The buses will be used to transport the players, while the other passenger vehicles will be used for ceremonies and staff.
The first player to hit a home run during the first and second innings of the opening game on the 20th and 21st will receive an IONIQ 5.
Hyundai will also display an IONIQ 5 art car specially created for the Seoul Series in the outdoor area of the Gocheok Sky Dome during the Seoul Series. The IONIQ 5 Art Car was created using the logos and iconic colours of the LA Dodgers and San Diego Padres, and is expected to become a must-see spot for stadium visitors. In addition, Hyundai's logo will be displayed on the stadium's fence, the bottom of the scoreboard, banners, and the backdrop of interviews to enhance brand awareness.
In addition, to celebrate the Seoul Series and showcase Hyundai's superior EV competitiveness, Hyundai offered tickets to the Seoul Series games and MLB merchandise to customers who test drove Hyundai's electric vehicles, including the Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6 and Kona EV, at 27 driving lounges in Korea from 28 February to 11 March.
"Hyundai, which is striving to write a new history in mobility by developing Korea's first unique model Pony and mass-producing the world's first hydrogen electric vehicle, is pleased to be part of baseball's new history as the first official MLB game in Korea. We will continue to take on various challenges as a leading Korean brand and first mover in the mobility industry, such as providing the first hydrogen electric vehicle as the official operating vehicle of the MLB."
The Seoul Series featured four special games between the LG Twins, Kiwoom Heroes and the Korea National Baseball Team on 17-18 July, followed by Games 1 and 2 of the regular season opener between the LA Dodgers and San Diego Padres on 20-21 July.
It will also be the first official game in Korea for Kim Ha-seong of the San Diego Padres, the first Asian to win a Golden Glove as an infielder, and the first official game for Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers, MLB's first two-time unanimous MVP.
