Hyundai, Kia, and the Seoul Metropolitan Government to link eco-mileage services

Hyundai, Kia and Genesis customers can use Seoul's eco-mileage service more conveniently.

The EcoMileage service is Seoul's flagship eco-friendly policy, providing incentives in the form of miles for citizens who voluntarily save energy or reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The accumulated mileage can be exchanged for goods or used to pay local taxes. Until now, to accumulate eco-miles for passenger cars, drivers had to go through a cumbersome process of manually photographing and uploading the dashboard screen displaying the mileage.

However, from now on, drivers can easily register their mileage through the 'Driving Insights' menu in My Hyundai, My Kia and My Genesis, the integrated customer service application of Hyundai, Kia and Genesis. Hyundai and Kia said that they will link vehicle operation information based on connected car services with the eco-mileage system for passenger cars in Seoul, greatly simplifying the mileage entry process and supporting drivers' safe driving for the first time through the pilot of green practice driving mileage.

The Driving Insights feature within its customer service app provides drivers with information on car data and driving history, as well as consumable management and vehicle diagnostics. In addition, it analyses and quantifies the history of sudden acceleration/deceleration and late-night driving to provide a safe driving score to encourage drivers to drive safely. Drivers with high safe driving scores can also receive discounts on their insurance premiums through special car insurance policies.

Customers who wish to connect to the Seoul EcoMileage service can do so by entering the Driving Insights menu and clicking on the 'Seoul EcoMileage (Passenger Cars)' banner.

In addition, Hyundai Motor Company, Kia Motors and the City of Seoul are piloting the 'Green Driving Mileage' system to create a safer traffic environment. Green Driving Mileage is a system that provides additional mileage to drivers who practice safe driving. It will be offered to Hyundai and Kia customers for the first time through the linkage of Hyundai and Kia's Driving Insights.

The scheme is for customers who drive more than 500 kilometres in 90 days. 3,000 miles for a safe driving score of 85 or more and 5,000 miles for a score of 95 or more will be paid from 2025, and can be combined with existing eco-miles on the Seoul eco-homepage.

"This collaboration with the Seoul Metropolitan Government is significant because we can use vehicle data to support the transparent operation of the system while also contributing to environmental protection," said a Hyundai-Kia official. "We will continue to introduce various services to improve the driving comfort of Hyundai-Kia customers."

Hyundai and Kia introduced the first connected car service in Korea in 2003 and reached 5 million domestic subscribers last year. As the number of connected cars on the road increases, the amount of data they generate will increase significantly, and we will continue to strive to develop various customer convenience services based on this data.
