Honda Korea successfully concludes first round of 2024 Honda One Maker Race

Honda Korea has successfully concluded the first round of the 2024 Honda One Maker Race, held on the 19th of this month.

The Honda One Maker Race is a competition organised by the Korea Mini-Moto Race Championship (KMRC) in which Honda Korea participates as a single brand in two classes, the Honda MSX Cup and the Honda Cub Cup. The Honda One-Maker Race, now in its second year, is designed to provide an opportunity for anyone to try their hand at mini-moto racing and experience the "Fun Riding" that Honda Motorcycles strives for in order to expand the motorcycle culture.

To that end, two changes were made this year to lower the barrier to entry into motorcycle racing. The Honda MSX Cup, which was a regular class, has been changed to an event class and is now only open to newcomers to the circuit who have never raced in any other league, and those who have never won a KMRC race.

In addition, a total of 12 new "Honda Korea Official Teams" were established to encourage new entries. The Honda Korea Official Teams minimised the burden on new entrants by acting as local contact points for customers interested in the Honda One Maker Race, answering inquiries and assisting with the purchase and set-up of competition cars. New entrants who participated through the Honda Korea Official Team received benefits such as a discount on the entry fee (KRW 180,000) and 15% for the purchase of a race car.

A total of 56 entries were registered for the first round of the 2024 Honda One Maker Race, with eight newcomers competing in the Honda One Maker Race for the first time this year. In this round, Kim Jung-gil (Honda Motorcycle Busan Sasang Team) won the Honda MSX Cup and Jeon Young-min (BYS Jaeho Rent) won the Honda Curve Cup.

Meanwhile, the 2024 Honda One Manufacturer Race will be held in four rounds over the next five months, starting with Round 1 on 19 May. Round 2 will be held on Sunday 23 June, Round 3 on Sunday 25 August, and the fourth round of the endurance race will be held on Sunday 13 October, featuring a one-hour continuous race around the full course of the KIC Karting Stadium.
