GM Joins Korea Diversity Council as Founding Member

GM Korea has formed the Korea Diversity Council with seven companies and organisations from the public and private sectors to promote a culture of diversity, inclusion and equity values in society, and held a launch ceremony on the 18th.

Held at the Korea Science and Technology Center, more than 20 members of the GM Korea Diversity Council, including Jiyoung Won, vice president and co-chair of the GM Korea Diversity Council, and Kwanhum Song, co-chair and former executive vice president of the GM Korea Diversity Council, celebrated the launch of the council and reinforced their commitment to diversity, inclusion and equity values.

Immediately after the inauguration ceremony, which was held amidst congratulations and expectations from all walks of life, including congratulatory remarks from UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and Minister of Science, ICT and Future Planning Lee Jong-ho, the GM Korea Diversity Committee participated in a diversity and inclusion forum and discussion session organised by the Korea Diversity Council to share GM's management philosophy and actions to realise diversity, inclusion and equity values. In addition, we shared the values of diversity and inclusion that the Korean science and technology community, universities, public institutions, and companies are pursuing.

Together with the members of the Korea Diversity Council, including the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Women in Science and Technology, Korea University Diversity Research Center, Seoul National University Diversity Council, Onsemi Korea, HP, KAIST Inclusion Committee, and POSCO ENC, the GM Korea Diversity Council will work to protect and promote diversity in the organization through activities such as creating an inclusive environment, promoting non-discrimination and equality, improving diversity education and awareness, fostering dialogue between communities, and promoting sustainable diversity policies, and will work together to ensure that this impact is spread throughout society.

"The launch of the Korea Diversity Council represents an important step forward in highlighting the awareness and importance of diversity in society at large," said Jiyoung Won, vice president of GM Korea and co-chair of the Diversity Council. "We are particularly proud that GM Korea's annual Diversity Week brought together representatives from various organisations and inspired them to form the council, and we look forward to further spreading the value of diversity through collaboration among participating organisations."

The GM Korea Diversity Council is open to all GM employees, regardless of department, position or generation, and embraces a broader definition of diversity that extends beyond gender to include generations, geography and class. The committee plays a key role in creating an open organisational culture through various activities based on GM's core behaviours of diversity, equity and inclusion.

In line with our vision to be the most inclusive company in the world, we hold an annual Diversity Week and offer a variety of programmes for our employees, including social contribution activities, networking, cultural experiences and talent development, which play a key role in building an inclusive and open organisational culture.

In addition, GM opened an in-house bakery run by people with and without disabilities in April last year, and continues to support local underprivileged communities through its Disability and Vulnerable Populations Support Programme, Afghan Special Contributors Programme, and STEM education programmes for local children, as part of its vision to become the "World's Most Inclusive Company".
