In line with its plan to develop zero-emission models, confirmed in May 2022, INEOS Automotive has officially unveiled its new 4X4 vehicle, the INEOS FUSILIER. Offering uncompromising on-road performance with off-road capability, the INEOS FUSILIER will be available in two powertrain options: all-electric and low-emission range-extender electric. Unveiled in London by Jim Ratcliffe, Executive Chairman, INEOS FUSILIAR is being developed as a low-emission range-extender electric powertrain alongside the all-electric powertrain to meet the diverse needs of consumers around the world as they pursue decarbonisation. The Range-Extender Electric utilises a small petrol engine to power a generator to keep the battery charged when external charging is not available.Co-developed with automotive contract manufacturer Magna, the Ineos Fusilier will be contract manufactured at the Graz, Austria plant. The Fusilier has a modern and distinctive identity based on its Grenadian DNA. The new 4X4 is slightly shorter in length and slightly lower in height than the Grenadier. Based on a non-spoke skateboard platform, the Fusilier will have a steel superstructure and vehicle floor and aluminium doors and closures. Testing will also take place in Schockl, a mountainous area near the assembly plant.
"In developing this car, we concluded that we needed to mix different powertrain technologies to continue to produce a car that consumers want while pursuing carbon reduction," said Ratcliffe. All-electric powertrains are well suited to certain applications, such as short journeys and city centre deliveries. However, industry and governments must also have realistic expectations of other technologies to help accelerate the pace of change. Therefore, we are offering an additional powertrain for the Fusion with the necessary range and refuelling capability while dramatically reducing emissions."Lynn Calder, CEO of INEOS Automotive, said: "The announcement of our third model line is another important milestone for INEOS Automotive. "The announcement of our third model line is another important milestone for INEOS Automotive. We are cementing our commitment as a long-term automotive manufacturer."Meanwhile, to demonstrate its strong commitment to the decarbonisation of the future, INEOS Automotive previously unveiled the Grenadier hydrogen fuel cell demonstrator at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July 2023. This demonstrator shows that the technology is in place to produce a hydrogen-powered 4X4. However, the hydrogen refuelling infrastructure needs to be in place before commercialisation.
